PCIM Pakistan Revives the Spirit of Muslim Intellectualism

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, PAKISTAN — In commemoration of Muhammadiyah’s 113th milad, the Special Branch Board of Muhammadiyah (PCIM) Pakistan held an international webinar titled “Cendekia Berkata” (The Intellectual Speaks) on Sunday (5/10)

The event was conducted in a hybrid format, both via Zoom and on-site at the Muhammadiyah’s Da’wah Centre in Islamabad, Pakistan. It attracted participants from various regions across Indonesia and abroad.

Enthusiastic participation came from Aceh, Padang, Lampung, Semarang, Pemalang, Banjarmasin, Bogor, Pasuruan, Depok, Madura, and Cilegon, as well as from Brunei Darussalam. This broad geographical participation reflects the wide reach of Muhammadiyah’s da’wah and the strong spirit of collaboration among members of the organization worldwide.

Three speakers were featured in the webinar, each contributing deep insights on the integration of knowledge, spirituality, and Islamic values in the context of modern life.

The first speaker, Dewi Nur Aisyah, presented a talk titled “Integrating Knowledge and Spirituality in a Muslim’s Life.” In her presentation, she stated the importance of knowledge–spirituality balance so that scholars do not lose their sense of divinity.

“Spirituality turns a scientist into a humble servant through their knowledge, not into a god because of their knowledge,” she remarked.

Next, sherly Annavita Rahmi delivered a presentation titled “Character, Values, and Identity: Pillars of Global Muslim Students.” She highlighted the importance of perseverance, faith, and integrity in facing contemporary challenges.

“Hope, faith, and ideals must continue to be fought for,” she said. “Whatever awaits in our future, we must still be strived for, even if it already seems certain. As humans, our task is to make the effort, the result is in the hand of the almighty,” she added.

Meanwhile, Vier Agi Leventa discussed “Progress or Alienation? Navigating Innovation with the Compass of Islamic Values.” He invited young intellectuals to carefully consider the direction of innovation so that it remains rooted in Islamic principles and serves the welfare of the ummah.

Through this event, PCIM Pakistan hopes that the spirit of Muhammadiyah’s 113th milad will serve as a momentum to strengthen the role of Muslim intellectuals in building a progressive civilization. The webinar also became a platform for Muhammadiyah members around the world to share ideas, expand their networks and reaffirm their commitment to Islamic da’wah based on knowledge, values, and spirituality.
