MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, RIYADH — Syeikh Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Rabithah Alam Islami (Muslim World League), received Muhammadiyah President Haedar Nashir and his delegation at the Rabithah office in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Monday (1/12).
During the meeting, Syeikh Mohammed Al-Issa expressed his appreciation for Muhammadiyah’s longstanding dedication to strengthening Islamic faith and morality, as well as advancing various fields of social endeavor, including education, health, social services, and economic development.
“Muhammadiyah is a major Islamic organization with major contributions to dakwah. It comes from the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation. Indonesia itself is a great
country and holds an important role in the Islamic world,” he emphasized.
Al-Issa also highlighted the Zayed Award received by Muhammadiyah in 2024, noting that the honor reflects the organization significant contributions and its both national and global impact.
He further expressed full support for Muhammadiyah’s effortss to promote Islam wasathiyah (moderate islam), especially amid growing global challenges such as rising Islamophobia.
“We continue to encourage and support Muhammadiyah’s role in spreading the values of Islam wasathiyah globally, as a response to various challenges and misunderstandings about Islam,” he said.
In return, Muhammadiyah President Haedar Nashir conveyed his gratitude and appreciation for the Muslim World League’s consistent efforts in strengthening Islamic unity (ukhuwah Islamiyah) and promoting Islamic moderation around the world.
Haedar also outlined Muhammadiyah’s initiatives in religious development, education, health, social welfare, economic empowerment, and the ongoing internationalizastion of the movement.
“We hope that close cooperation between Muhammdiyah and the Muslim World League will continue to strengthen as we face increasingly complex global challenges,” he stated.
Regarding Islamophobia, Haedar emphasized Muhammadiyah’s cultural and educational approach in presenting Islam as a peaceful faith that brings progress and mercy to all creation.
One concrete example is the establishment of Muhammadiyah Australia College in Melbourned, an inclusive and modern Islamic educational institution. The school demonstrates that Islam can grow and thrive within a modern, plural society that upholds democracy and human rights.
“Islam is not a religion that threatens anyone, nor is it anti-progress. Muhammdiyah promotes an Islam that is progressive, rooted in tauhid, guided by the Qur’an and Sunnah, revitalizing tajdid and ijtihad, upholding wasathiyah, and embodying Islam as rahmatan lil ‘alamin,” Haedar concluded.
