MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah expresses deep condolences over the passing of the senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. He was reported to have been assassinated in an Israeli airstrike while on an official visit to Tehran, Iran.
Syafiq Mughni, Chairperson of Muhammadiyah, believed that new leaders would emerge to continue Haniyeh’s fight for Palestinian independence and sovereignty.
“We appreciate the steps that have been taken to reach an agreement between Fatah and Hamas to strengthen the struggle to eliminate colonization and occupation and promote peace on earth, especially in the Middle East,” said Syafiq on Wednesday (July 31).
Syafiq further expressed Muhammadiyah hope that the process towards peace and justice would be continued by the fighters who replace Haniyeh. He stressed the need for global unity against all forms of colonization, occupation, and the brutality inflicted by Israel on the Palestinian people.
“The global community should unite against all forms of colonization, occupation, and the atrocities committed by Israel against the Palestinian people,” said Syafiq.
