MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MALAYSIA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir was honored with the Anugerah Khas Tokoh Pendidikan Keusahawanan (Special Award for Entrepreneurial Education Figure) by Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) during the Majlis Suar Gemilang ceremony on Sunday evening, May 4. The award is the first and most prestigious recognition of its kind granted by UMK to an influential figure in the area.
The ceremony took place at the Renai Hotel in Kota Bharu, Malaysia. Haedar was warmly welcomed by UMK’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ts. Dr. Arham bin Abdullah, who expressed pride in building strong ties with Muhammadiyah, which he described as the largest Islamic organization with a major influence on education, from early childhood to university level.
In his speech, Haedar said the award was not just a personal honor, but a symbol of friendship and cooperation between Muhammadiyah, Malaysia, and Indonesia, especially in the field of education.
“Although I’m not an entrepreneur and only involved in education, Muhammadiyah has played a significant role in this area,” he said.
Haedar encouraged both Malaysia and Indonesia, as neighboring nations with shared roots, to strive toward becoming centers of excellence, especially in the areas of education and economic development.
“This award is not for me alone. It’s for both countries. It is a great honor for me, but it would mean even more if we can continue building progress in education and the economy,” he added.
He also thanked UMK for the recognition and expressed hope for stronger collaboration between Malaysia and Muhammadiyah in the future.
Previously, Haedar met with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who showed strong support for strengthening cooperation with Muhammadiyah. The meeting also celebrated Muhammadiyah recent milestone: the establishment of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) in Perlis.
