EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Overseas Scholarship Team of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah has officially announced the final results of the third batch of its undergraduate scholarship program to Al-Azhar University for 2026.
The selection process was held from May 13 to May 25, 2026. The process successfully drew applicants from Muhammadiyah schools and Islamic boarding schools across Indonesia. After a rigorous and comprehensive assessment, 20 candidates secured admission and will now proceed to the administrative stage.
The scholarship reflects Muhammadiyah’s long-term commitment to expanding access to international higher education. At the same time, it seeks to cultivate a new generation of scholar-intellectuals with deep Islamic knowledge and global perspective.
Building Future Islamic Leadership
Syafiq A. Mughni, chairperson of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, praised all applicants for their dedication throughout the selection process. Moreover, he urged the awardee to seize the opportunity studying at one of the most influential centers of scholarship.
“The opportunity to study at Al-Azhar must be used to deepen Islamic knowledge and broaden international perspectives. This chance must be used to prepare to become scholars and community leaders of integrity,” he said.
The scholarship committee will coordinate further administrative procedures directly with the successful candidates through official communication channels. Meanwhile, reserve candidates have been encouraged to remain prepared and closely monitor updates from the committee.
Muhammadiyah extended its congratulations to all successful applicants. They also expressed appreciation to every participant for their determination during the selection process.
A Strategic Partnership with Al-Azhar
The undergraduate scholarship program is the result of a longstanding institutional partnership between Muhammadiyah, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and the government of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The initiative directly follows the official visit of Ahmed Al-Tayeb to Muhammadiyah’s central office on July 11, 2024, where he was received by Haedar Nashir.
The allocation of a special scholarship quota for Muhammadiyah cadres underscores the strength of this relationship. It also reflects active support from the Embassy of Egypt in Jakarta in advancing educational cooperation and human resource development.
Through this program, Muhammadiyah aims to prepare future scholars who possess strong mastery of turath, the classical Islamic intellectual tradition, while also developing the capacity to address contemporary challenges facing Muslim communities and society at large.
Education at Al-Azhar is expected to produce Muhammadiyah scholars who are deeply rooted in Islamic scholarship yet adaptable to the demands of an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world.
