MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, TUNISIA – The Chairperson of the Cadre Development and Human Resources Council of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah (MPKSDI PP Muhammadiyah), Bachtiar Dwi Kurniawan, together with the Rector of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY), Achmad Nurmandi and UMY Vice Rector Zuly Qodir, visited Tunisia to engage in dialogue with Muhammadiyah cadres in the country.
The event, organized as an academic seminar titled “Science and Philanthropy Manifesto: Ecological Transformation toward a Progressive Civilization.” It was held at the Secretariat of the Indonesian Student Association (PPI) Tunisia on Thursday (7/5).
In addition to members of Special Branch Board of Muhammadiyah Tunisia (PCIM Tunisia), the event was also attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia, Zuhairi Misrawi.
Encouraging Progressive and Inclusive Cadres
In his remarks, Bachtiar Dwi Kurniawan praised the progressiveness of Muhammadiyah cadres in Tunisia. Bachtiar viewed it as an important part of the organization’s movement to build a progressive civilization on the global stage.
“PCIM cadres must continue to think inclusively and become progressive Muhammadiyah cadres. This means being open to various ideologies and schools of thought. This path of struggle must be built with openness toward organizations and strong systems,” he stated.
Bachtiar emphasized that progress cannot be achieved without a strong spirit of struggle. Therefore, Muhammadiyah cadres are expected to adapt to changing times, maintain a commitment to building both the nation and the organization, and possess a grand vision for Indonesia’s future.
“Indonesia must be built through the role of outstanding Muhammadiyah cadres because Muhammadiyah enjoys a high level of public trust. Therefore, Muhammadiyah cadres, especially those in PCIM Tunisia, must preserve that trust and continue serving Muhammadiyah,” he said.
Ambassador Highlights Strategic Collaboration
The visit by MPKSDI PP Muhammadiyah was welcomed positively by Ambassador Zuhairi Misrawi. He, then, described PCIM Tunisia as one of the overseas Muhammadiyah organizations actively receiving attention from Muhammadiyah.
According to Zuhairi, Muhammadiyah’s effort to connect with cadres abroad while exploring educational partnerships with universities in Tunisia represents a strategic step with long-term impact.
“It is important to continue building relationships, expanding networks of friendship, and maintaining the spirit of learning for the future. I welcome the delegation of PP Muhammadiyah in their effort to engage with cadres and cooperate with campuses in Tunisia. Hopefully this becomes a progressive step that continues to generate positive impacts in the future,” he remarked.
Beyond serving as a platform for dialogue and cadre strengthening, the event also became an opportunity to reinforce synergy between Muhammadiyah, the Indonesian diaspora, and educational institutions in Tunisia in developing collaborations in scholarship, philanthropy, and social transformation oriented toward the advancement of global civilization.
Through this initiative, Muhammadiyah reaffirmed its commitment to continuously supporting its cadres across different parts of the world as part of its broader effort to build a globally competitive, internationally minded network grounded in the values of Progressive Islam (Islam Berkemajuan).
