Press Release of Muhammadiyah on the Implementation of the 2024 Elections

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

Regarding the implementation of the 2024 elections, the Central Board of Muhammadiyah issues the following statement:

1. We extend our appreciation to the citizens who participated and voted responsibly and peacefully at their polling stations (TPS).
2. We commend the General Election Commission (KPU) and all involved in the electoral process, from the national level to the TPS level, including security personnel, for their efforts in ensuring that the elections are conducted safely, orderly, and smoothly, from the voting process to the final count.
3. We urge all parties, particularly political entities and candidates for legislative and presidential-vice presidential positions, along with their supporters, to exercise patience as we await the official announcement of election results by the KPU. All parties should refrain from hastily drawing conclusions about the election results based on Quick Counts provided by survey institutions.
4. Maintaining a respectful and tolerant atmosphere is paramount for all involved. Winning candidates and their supporters should refrain from displays of arrogance and excessive jubilation, while those who may face defeat should gracefully accept the election results with magnanimity.
5. In the event of any disputes regarding election outcomes, we encourage all parties to seek resolution through legal channels, such as the Constitutional Court, rather than resorting to actions that could incite violence or exacerbate existing tensions.
