MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, CIANJUR—Muhammadiyah, through the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) and Lazismu (the Muhammadiyah Zakat Management Body), established 250 emergency shelters in six blocks for the Cianjur earthquake survivors. The Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawanti, mentioned the shelters were women-and-children-friendly.
Founded in Sukamulya, one plot was only for one family, so the emergency shelters were secure for women and children.
I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawanti said that the shelters could be a role model for other groups of volunteers in providing disaster relief.
“We wish the shelters could inspire others to construct emergency shelters for families, women, and children,” the Minister said.
Furthermore, Chair of the MDMC Budi Setiwan mentioned that Muhammadiyah commits to maintaining human dignity. The commitment was, for example, implemented by providing emergency shelters for the survivors.
Muhammadiyah saw people’s houses were severely damaged, so the shelters were part of Muhammadiyah’s aid for the Cianjur earthquake-affected people. Indeed, Muhammadiyah won’t ever come, give assistance, and leave them.
“We’re here for the survivors and to build decent emergency shelters,” Budi said.
